Need something easy, nourishing and comforting to start your morning off with? This Golden Turmeric Milk is a cool, smoothie-style twist on a healthy fall favorite that will get your whole family out the door on a healthy foot.

Turmeric is an amazing spice.  Beyond its rich and stunning golden color (that, be forewarned, does stain everything it touches) and amazing earthy flavor, it is an ancient healing root that has be used for its anti-inflammatory properties for thousands of years. It is a spice that many naturalists and health gurus will advocate for people to have more of in their diet (including yours truly), and this Golden Turmeric Milk is one easy, delicious, and family friendly way to get this healing spice into all the bodies (big and small) that you cherish. 

Turmeric, I will admit, has become quite trendy as of late. Not that it’s bad thing, since more turmeric in one’s life, the better! You can find it in all sorts of recipes: desserts, soups and savory dishes (my favorite is my Turmeric Roasted Carrots).  Last year, I discovered the coziness of turmeric tea, a hot creamy beverage that reminds me of eggnog (but wildly healthier), that is lovely to curl up with on a chilly Sunday morning. However, sometimes I just want a cold beverage to start my day with instead of a steaming one.

So, I got out my handy-dandy blender, went all smoothie-style on creamy golden tea and came up with this gem of a recipe. Like traditional turmeric tea, this recipe uses simple plant milk (making it vegan, paleo, and dairy free friendly) and a hint of black pepper to help the turmeric absorb into your lovely body (an interesting ingredient for a sweet beverage, I agree….but an important one!). Naturally sweetened with a little honey or maple syrup and bananas, it’s a lovely treat that your family will beg for more of and that you can feel amazing about giving to them. 

Serves 2


  • 1 1/2 cup plant milk (almond, hemp, coconut, cashew…pick your fancy)
  • 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoons honey/ maple syrup or taste
  • 1 very ripe frozen banana, peeled
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


Combine all ingredients in a blender and run until smooth and consistent in color. Enjoy immediately
