15-Minute Cheeseburger Salad
This Cheeseburger Salad is one of our family’s favorite go-to easy dinners. Made in just 15 minutes with perfectly seasoned ground beef, chopped romaine lettuce, sliced cherry tomatoes, pickles, diced red onion, shredded cheddar cheese and all tied together with the most delicious (and easy) burger sauce, this will become a family staple dinner in your house, too.

I have legitimately been making this recipe for almost 20 years….even before I started my own veggie-loaded journey. I remember making it in the tiny kitchen of my first apartment after a long day of teaching at my first job because it was quick to make in just 15 minutes, was filling, budget friendly, filled with good-for-you veggies, and tasted like the classic cheeseburger…just without the bun. Talk about healthy comfort food!
20 years later, I have added more and more flavorful salad recipes to our dinner line-up, but Cheeseburger Salad remains a staple recipe in our house. And now I have developed a burger sauce that is so delicious I could eat it with a spoon….but I highly recommend reserving most of it to drizzle over your salad.
I love how easy it is to make (and how few dishes it makes) and my family loves how customizable it is so that everyone can enjoy cheeseburger salad however they like. If dairy is not your thing, simply omit the cheese. And, because it doesn’t have a bun, this version of a cheeseburger is naturally gluten free!
How to make Cheeseburger Salad
There are only a handful steps when it comes to making this hearty, flavorful salad…which is why it is one of my favorite easy dinners!
How to make the burger sauce
This burger sauce is optional but truly delicious and makes this Cheeseburger Salad sing in the flavor department! Make a batch to enjoy over salad today and store it in your fridge to enjoy for up to 5 days to enjoy in so many other ways!
Suggested Adaptations
- Make dairy-free by omitting cheese or using your favorite dairy-free cheese.
- Make it vegetarian by using a plant-based meat alternative like Beyond Beef.
- Add whatever other burger fixings you love. Diced avocado, crumbled bacon, jalapeños are all excellent additions to this Cheeseburger Salad recipe.
- Change up the cheese topping! Blue cheese, mozzarella or even strips of American cheese would be delicious on this salad.

This Cheeseburger Salad recipe is going on repeat in our house! Not only was it easy to make, but it was also delicious, and it was fun for each member of the family to personalize theirs (one kid not having tomatoes, the other having extra cheese, my husband adding banana peppers). My favorite part was the burger sauce! I could eat that on everything!!
I am SO glad to hear this was a hit with the whole family, Misty! It is one of our go-to easy dinners that we never tire of. And I agree, the burger sauce kinda makes this salad next level!
Why has no one ever thought of this before!!! It’s the convenience of taco salad but everything I love about a cheese burger. I made this for my husband and he even thought it was great! Full disclosure he made a spicy mustard vinaigrette bc we were out of mayo and I just poured pickle juice over everything. This is the definition of easy, flexible, and delicious!
I’m so delighted that this salad was such a hit, Anne! There are definitely lots of versions of this kind of salad out there (sometimes called Big Mac Salad or Burger Bowls) but this is how I do it and I’m so happy I could introduce you to it!
Making next week! I have a thing with mayo—could I substitute Greek yogurt or something else in the sauce? Thanks!
I think Greek yogurt should work fine! Just taste it before adding the sauce to the salad to see if you need to add more salt or something to balance out the flavors
Loved this salad and can’t wait to eat leftovers for lunch tomorrow! I used half mayo and half Greek yogurt for the dressing. The tang from the pickles paired with the dressing was everything. Will definitely be making this one again
So happy to hear you enjoyed it so much, Sarah! Love the idea of the half yogurt + half mayo fro the sauce! Must try with my next batch!
Loved this!! And we added caramelized onions and bacon. I also added quinoa for a carb. The sauce was a little different than others hamburger bowls I have tried and it really accentuated the salad. All and all a very versatile easy supper!
Oh my gosh! Talk about leveling it up! Love the added quinoa and so glad you enjoyed it.
Made this for dinner tonight!! So yummy 😋 😍.
Yay! So glad you enjoyed, Rebecca!
Slowly making my way through all of taesha’s recipes and still have yet to be disappointed! I had precooked chicken burgers to use, so I used those (looking forward to trying the burger crumble next time!). I also used Greek yogurt for the sauce (I saw someone have success with half yogurt, half mayonnaise but mayonnaise is stupid expensive in my area and my bf doesn’t love it!) And had success with the sauce! Used all of taesha’s suggested mix ins and it was truly yummy! I added diced up air fryed potatoes with French fry seasoning for some carbs!
Another winner! Looking forward to using this recipe all summer long and probably grilling burgers to crumble when the weather is nice! Really love an easy and quick recipe that doesn’t heat up the house and this fit the bill!
Love love love this, Katie! I’m glad you found this recipe to be as forgiving and simple as I do. And topping this salad with fries or potatoes just makes a good thing even better! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review!
I’ve never served a salad where my family couldn’t stop talking about it. Sooooo many compliments on how delicious it was! This is quick, you can use any veggies you have on hand and you likely have all the ingredients right now. Treat yourself/your family to this!
Yessssss! Love this so much.
I’ve never had so many compliments for serving a salad! This is really tasty and my family could t stop thanking me for making it. :). It’s also a great way to use up veggies!
This is THE summer salad! All the flavors of a perfect cheeseburger in a refreshing bowl of excellence! And the dressing, holy moly! I literally make it for all the things now. Tonight I did 1/2 mayo and 1/2 Greek yogurt and it was just as fantastic.
Well done!!
Yay! So glad you loved it. And I love the idea of half mayo and half yogurt!
This recipe was an absolute hit with my family. Everyone loved it – the adults, my picky five-year-old, and my two-year-old. My five-year-old said this was the best chicken she’s had in a long time 🙂 and my two-year-old was eating the sauce with his finger. Both asked for seconds. Thank you for providing a family friendly, tasty meal that we will make over and over
What an amazing review, Jessica! I’m so delighted to hear it was such a success for your family!
This really is as yummy, easy, and quick as Taesha would have you believe! Total winner. The sauce is RIDICULOUS – I want to live in it. Definitely in the rotation!
Yesssss! That sauce is all kinds of magical! So glad you love this recipe as much as I do!
