Have you guys discovered the glory of cooking with your slow cooker during the dog days of summer yet? If not, prepare to have your mind blown and summer meals forever changed.
I first discovered this summer hack when I was a young new mom, determined to feed my family awesome real food. However, at the end of a hot summer day of work or fun, the idea of standing over a hot stove to cook dinner sounded more life a punishment for me than a gift to our bodies. Takeout started to sound intriguing as a way to dodge the heat, but then I spied my slow cooker collecting dust in my kitchen cabinets.
I hadn’t used my slow cooker much until that point, but I remembered how my mom would use it to make meals on days that we were busy and that it never heated up the house the way the stove or oven did. Clearly, it was time to brush off the forgotten about wedding gift and try it on for size.
And, friends, it was a total summer meal game changer! Meals were made easy pease while I was of enjoying the summer season and my house wasn’t any warmer for my culinary efforts.
Not just for summers, slow cookers are great for making real food cooking easier year round.
The habit of cooking in my slow cooker (and now my Instant Pot (check out these Whole30 Instant Pot Recipes)) carried on into the busy fall when my schedule as a full-time teacher and mom had me running around like the classic chicken with her head cut off. I won’t pretend like I am super organized by nature, but I definitely learned that if I simply threw a quick meal into my slow cooker before I left for the day, the evening was infinitely easier and healthier.
